What Inspiration Does to a Writer

A brief reflection on a writer’s process of gaining inspiration.

When I first thought about making my blog, The Literary Bubble, my mind was streaming with many ideas on what I could offer to its growth. I was throwing concepts, left and right, dedicating so much time to creating my blog while daydreaming about the abundance of knowledge I intend to offer. During a dark period of life, I was dwelling on the harsh reality of unemployment, and somehow choosing to wake up and create a blog surged a sense of purpose into my life.

At present, I currently have a job and slightly abandoned my blog.

As sad as it sounds to return to reality, I still reserve a yearning passion to return to full-time writing. Although it may not be as active as how I used to be, the inspiration for literary knowledge consistently blazes within me. Well, I might be tired, but thinking about how I started never fails to regain that desire to restart again.

And I think the drive for inspiration is a foundational aspect of any writer’s journey. It becomes this driving force to any central point of a masterpiece; like any form of art, to create something ground-breaking, one needs its muse. Inspiration serves as this energizing catalyst toward one creativity or innovative mindset. When encountered, we embark on this sensational experience of epiphanic wonder towards experiences and/or lessons.

For the words to flourish in their pinnacle form, being inspired renews curiosity for what we want to seek and the message intended to share about life through one’s lens.

But I’m pretty sure there’s no linear path towards gaining that inspiration. At some point, we gain that surge to write to the ends of the earth,

And then we crash into an unfathomable blockage of burnout.

And without it, we become this empty shell that holds a pen or types on the keyboard for the sake of doing. We lose that passion in our work, the authenticity and depth it displays of our inner consciousness. Although several writing formats don’t need it, the intention to write out of sincerity loses its color.

It’s like having your mind on auto-pilot; you are aware that you are doing something, but wonder why exert the time and effort to do so…and why you got there in the first place.

As much as losing inspiration may seem like a detrimental ordeal, regaining it as a writer requires one simple method — patience.

Like painting, sculpting, or even solving mathematical equations, any artful piece requires the willingness to break it down into sections and carefully build it together to capture the desired perspective.

One step at a time, as they say. One step at a time.

Along the way, inspiration reunites with you like an old friend, filled with a burst of energy they wished to radiate towards your creative realm.
